What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address, public display name, password hash, recovery-code hash, consent dates and communication preferences. You may optionally provide a USPTO registration number. We also store your questions, annotations, selected article text, moderation status, editorial answers and links to revisions that address your contributions. Research suggestions include the company, technology, question, optional context, patent numbers, supporting links, review history and any resulting article link. Do not submit confidential client information, privileged material or sensitive personal information.

How we use it

We use account information to sign you in, manage participation, prevent abuse, moderate contributions and respond to your questions. Editors may bring approved contributions into a private editorial workspace and use AI-assisted research and writing tools to investigate and revise articles. We do not include your private email or registration number in public articles or the question text sent to those research tools. Your public contribution and display name may be included.

An optional registration number may later be compared with public USPTO practitioner records. Providing a number does not verify your identity, registration or professional standing. Email addresses are currently unverified; signup does not establish that the account holder owns the address.

Research suggestions

Suggestions are visible only to their author and editors. Editors may accept a suggestion, turn it into a private research lead and use it to develop an article. We may quote or summarize accepted suggestions with the public display name in related articles. Private email addresses and registration numbers are excluded from imported research leads. A status such as accepted or researching does not guarantee publication. You can track progress in My suggestions, withdraw a suggestion, or delete it by deleting your account; previously imported editorial records may remain as described below.

What is public

Approved questions, annotations, follow-up replies, your display name and editorial answers may be visible to everyone. Pending or rejected contributions are visible to you and the editors. Email addresses, registration numbers, password hashes and recovery credentials are not displayed publicly. Changing your display name also changes the name shown beside your existing contributions.

Email choices

You can choose whether to receive updates when your questions are answered or addressed in a revision, or when your research suggestions progress. Article-news emails require a separate optional signup. Email delivery has not launched: answer events are recorded and notifications are held. We will enable address verification and email preferences before sending held notifications. You can turn off either preference in your account. We do not sell or rent reader information or use it for targeted advertising.

Service providers, storage and security

Cloudflare hosts the site, database and document storage and processes technical request information such as IP addresses for network operation and security. Our application uses a keyed, one-way representation of an IP address for short-term abuse limits. Necessary sign-in cookies expire after 30 days. Appearance preferences are stored in your browser. Private editorial records are also stored on the operator’s computer. Our service providers and editorial AI tools may process information in the United States and other locations where they operate.

We use access controls, encrypted connections and hashed passwords and recovery codes. No system can guarantee absolute security. We do not install advertising trackers or cross-site behavioral analytics. Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals do not change this behavior; we do not sell or share information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Linked external patent and court websites have their own privacy practices.

Retention, access and deletion

Account and contribution records remain while the account is active or while needed to operate the publication. Expired sessions and abuse counters are periodically removed. You can edit your profile and preferences, download your account information, withdraw contributions, or delete your account. Account deletion removes your account and associated contributions from the active public database. Previously imported editorial records, published article revisions, backups and external copies may remain; contact us to request deletion or redaction from records we control. We may retain limited records where necessary for legal obligations, security or disputes. Backup copies expire through the relevant provider’s retention cycle.

Age, changes and requests

Reader accounts are for people aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect children’s information. Contact hello@supracite.com about access, correction, deletion or other privacy rights that apply to you. We may need information to confirm a request. Material policy changes will be posted here with a new effective date; we will seek additional consent when required.
